Yonka Review Summary

The name “Yon-ka” is a combination of two words: “Yon,” a river with purifying waters; and “ka,” an ancient Egyptian symbol for an individual’s life force.

Yonka is a French company that specializes in a plant-based approach to skincare. The effects of these extracts are enhanced by additional marine ingredients, as well as vitamins, minerals, and alpha hydroxy acids. Of course, the website seems to suggest that the best place to experience Yon-ka’s formulas is the Yonka Institute in Paris, a 4,000 square foot spa that offers treatments by specially-trained aestheticians. Although pretty much everyone could benefit from a day of pampering, most consumers will have to settle for the brand’s at-home treatments.

Products at a Glance
Some of the products in Yon-ka’s home care line include: Lait Nettoyant, Lotion with essential oils, Masque Hydrant, Phyto-Contour, Pamplemousse, Optimizer, Alpha-Complex, Yonka Serum and Fruitelia.

Products In Focus
Yonka’s Optimizer treatment actually consists of two products, a cream and a serum. It is designed to be used both in the morning and evening, and when the two components are combine, promises to lift the skin and smooth the appearance of wrinkles. Like many anti-aging treatments, Optimizer contains fresh collagen in order to restore the firmness that is often lost with age. It also contains the very effective water-binding agent Hyaluronic Acid. In addition to hydrating the skin, this ingredient also carries nutrients to skin cells that do not have a direct blood supply.

Although this is a great start, moisture and topical application of collagen alone may not be sufficient for treating existing wrinkles. New technology in the form of peptide complexes has been shown to plump the skin’s own natural “cushion,” smoothing out lines from beneath the surface.

Website
The Yonka website is well organized and contains quite a bit of information about the brand and about skincare in general. This is especially impressive when you consider that the content has been translated into dozens of languages.

Like many cosmetic companies, Yonka also posts a glossary of common terms on its website in order to help consumers determine which product is most appropriate for their skin type. Unfortunately, we were disappointed to discover that relatively few ingredients were posted. Without the benefit of a free trial sample or detailed ingredient descriptions, it may be difficult for consumers to feel confident about any particular product.
