Shiseido Review Summary

Anyone who has ever passed by a department store cosmetics counter has likely seen an admired Shiseido’s sleek packaging. This 150-year-old Japanese bases its approach to skincare on Eastern aesthetics and Western science. Although the products’ exteriors are modern and minimalist, the actual formulas are based on holistic medicine.

According to the Shiseido website, its Skincare line is currently developing additional aromatherapy ingredients to help calm anxiety and minimize the effects of external stressors on the skin. Many women know the feeling of looking into a mirror at the end of a long day and seeing the toll it has taken on their skin, but unfortunately Shiseido’s attempts to treat these effects may come up a bit short.

Products at a Glance
Shiseido’s line consists of skincare treatments and color cosmetics. Some of its products include: Benefiance Revitalizing Cream, The Skincare Gentle Cleansing Cream, Pureness Pore Purifying Warming Scrub, Bio-Performance Super Restoring Cream, White Lucent Brightening Moisturizing Gel, Brilliant Bronze Tinted Self Tanning Cream, and Body Creator Aromatic Gel.

Products In Focus
Shiseido’s Bio-Performance Super Restoring Cream is one of the brand’s most high-profile products, as it is often written up in fashion magazines and other publications. According to the product description, 76% of users reported a reduction of fine lines after one week of use. Unfortunately, since Shiseido does not post a list of ingredients, it is difficult to determine what produced these impressive results. A little outside research suggests that one of the active ingredients in this product is Xylitol. Some believe that Xylitol helps to re-texturize skin, leaving it smoother and more receptive additional moisture. However, there is little clinical evidence to support claims that it has any significant effect.

Website
Shiseido’s website is a bit lacking when it comes to informing consumers. Product descriptions do not include a list of ingredients, and the website does not post descriptions of its active ingredients and complexes. At such a high point, consumers certainly deserve to know what they’re paying for, particularly since Shiseido does not offer free trial samples. The site does provide an FAQ section offering skincare advice, but it is largely sales oriented.

Another major element that is missing from Shiseido’s website is shopping. While it provides a list of retailers, they are typically located only in metropolitan areas. Many consumers prefer to purchase directly from the manufacturer because there is greater assurance of quality.

Positives
• Company donates to various cultural organizations
• Website includes an FAQ section

Negatives
