Phytomer Review Summary |
|
Phytomer is a French company that specializes in “marine cosmetology,” which means that its products ingredients like seaweed and algae to combat the signs of aging. This popular European approach to skincare is based on the idea that seawater and blood plasma have very similar compositions, and therefore marine ingredients have regenerative powers, and are also more efficiently absorbed into the skin.
In addition to exploring the sea’s potential for combating the signs of aging, Phytomer also claims to incorporate advanced technology. However, a closer examination of this brand’s multiple lines reveals that its research is still a bit behind when it comes to regenerating collagen.

Phytomer’s OgenAge line is specifically designed for mature skin. All of the products in this line use Marine Spring water, which the company claims is rich in minerals and antioxidants. There is some evidence that sea algae may help to combat the signs of aging by protecting the skin from free radical damage, however, research is still limited.
In addition to Marine Spring Water, OgenAge Smoothing Age-Defense Radiance Serum also includes a specially-designed Age Defense Complex, which consists of Retinol and alpha hydroxy acids. While both of these ingredients can help make the skin softer and prevent new lines from forming, they unfortunately do nothing to combat collagen loss. As we age, collagen levels decline, causing the skin to sag and crease. Certain peptide complexes have been shown to increase collagen synthesis, which not only helps to restore elasticity, but may also reduce wrinkle depth.
This product could also benefit from an active water binding agent to hydrate and nourish the skin. Hyaluronic Acid, for example, has been shown to help the skin retain moisture, and also carries nutrients to skin cells that do not have a direct blood supply.

 | Website |
|
Phytomer’s website offers a complete listing of all available products, and also provides descriptions of active ingredients. Those who are unsure of their skin type may take advantage of the diagnosing tool to help them determine which products are most appropriate for their individual needs. In addition to general skincare advice, the website includes sections devoted to specific concerns such as hypersensitivity and redness.
Although Phytomer is widely available in France, American consumers may have to do a little legwork in order to purchase products from this line. The website does not offer online shopping, nor does it provide a search tool to help consumers locate the nearest spa or salon that carries Phytomer.
