Pevonia® Botanica

Pevonia® Botanica Review Summary

Pevonia Botanica’s name comes from a Greek myth about a flower whose extract was so powerful that it became the most sought-after plant among the Gods. Today, the company applies the principles of holistic medicine in order to create spa-quality skin care products. Consumers have the option of either enjoying the products in a spa setting, or they may also use them at home.

Of course, the line makes use of more than just one plant these days, as well as certain “marine elements” that have been popular in European spas for decades. While the holistic care aspect of this brand may appeal to many consumers, unfortunately it does not offer anything we haven’t seen before.

Products at a Glance
Pevonia Botanica’s line consists of several collections designed to address the face, body, sun protection, and men’s skincare. Some of these collections include: Oxygenating Line, Myoxy-Caviar Line, The Essentials, Bathing Pleasures, Corrective Care Therapy, Spa Care for Him, and Sun Line.

Products In Focus
Pevonia’s Caviar and Pearl line uses just what one would expect in its products: caviar and pearls. Both of these ingredients have become popular elements of higher-end cosmetics, because they give the product an air of decadence and exclusivity. Pearl powder is used topically in Traditional Chinese Medicine to ease inflammation and promote healing. However, pearl powder is not easily absorbed into the body or the skin, so it most likely just rests on top of the skin’s surface. In this way, pearls function similarly to plain old mica in creams; they help to reflect light, but the effect is strictly cosmetic.

The idea behind putting caviar into skincare products is that like human skin, it is roughly 50 to 70 percent water, with a similar breakdown of lipids and other trace elements. Some companies claim that applying it directly to the skin increases the rate of renewal. As promising as this sounds, many dermatologists warn that many of the products on the market that list caviar as one of its ingredients actually contain too little of the extract to actually make a significant improvement.

Website
Pevonia Botanica’s website is more of a showcase for its lovely packaging than a place for consumers to actually glean information about its products. While it offers a complete listing of all the company’s at-home and spa products, it does not offer complete ingredient lists, nor does it give clear descriptions of how the creams actually work on a cellular level. Instead, the product descriptions are largely full of poetic phrases and vague promises. As consumers become savvier about what they put on their skin, they appreciate having as much information as possible to make their decision.

Those who do wish to purchase Pevonia Botanicas products for home use may have to be willing to travel a ways to get them. The website does not offer online shipping, and the products are available only through a select number of spas throughout the country.
