Neostrata Review Summary

Neostrata describes itself as a medically-based dermatological company dedicated to advancing the use of Alpha Hydroxy Acids (AHAs). Founded nearly twenty years ago, Neostrata was the brainchild of two Temple University medical professors who were both fascinated with the capability of AHAs to help the skin renew itself. Their research revealed that these substances not only had medical applications, but cosmetic benefits as well, as they could be used to reveal fresher, younger skin.

Today, Neostrata produces both prescription and nonprescription formulas for all skin types. While some of its formulas are designed to be used exclusively in a dermatologist’s office, most are suitable for home use. But as beneficial as AHAs can be for mature skin, unfortunately the do have some limitations.

Products at a Glance
Neostrata’s line consists of both prescription and nonprescription treatments. Some of these products include: Gentle Cleansing Cream, Evening Restorative Complex, Vespera Bionic Treatment, 30% Glycolic Acid Revitalizing Peel, Ultra-Rich Restorative Cream, Intense Lightening Complex, NeoStrata Eye Cream, NeoCeuticals Clear Skin Solution, and Bionic Face Serum.

Products In Focus
Neostrata’s Exuviance line is available without a prescription, and is suitable for both normal and sensitive skin. The active ingredient in Exuviance products is Polyhydroxy acid, which is a gentle, non-irritating AHA. They also contain moisturizers to nourish and antioxidants to protect against free radical damage.

Exuviance Evening Restorative Cream uses plant extracts to help the repair itself during sleep, the body’s natural restorative cycle. Some of these natural ingredients include algae, chamomile and Echinacea. While all have been used to soothe the skin for generations in various forms of herbal medicine, unfortunately, there is no evidence to prove that they have any significant effect on wrinkles. Fortunately, this product also contains Hyaluronic acid, which has been shown to not only keep the skin hydrated, but it also helps to carry nutrients to skin cells that do not have a direct blood supply. Just as importantly, it also helps to flush away debris.

Website
Because of the company’s commitment to developing AHAs, the Neostrata website contains quite a bit of information about this particular component of their formulas. However, the product descriptions are less clear about how other ingredients work to improve the skin. Although the site admirably posts a complete list of ingredients for each product, consumers may still be left wondering how one cream or serum differs from another.

Those interested in trying Exuvience products are in luck, as most of the formulas in this particular line are available online. The remaining two-thirds of Neostrata’s products are only available through a physician, so obtaining them requires significantly more time, energy and money.
