MD Skincare Review Summary

MD Skincare was founded by Dr. Dennis Gross, a board-certified dermatologist and New York City surgeon. He is also the author of the book Your Future Face, which uses a four-level system to determine how an individual’s skin will age based on environmental factors and lifestyle choices. With MD Skincare, he attempts to intervene in time to help consumers avoid premature aging by detoxifying the skin and protecting it from free radical damage.

In his own practice, Dr. Gross is particularly interested in the use of chemical peels for encouraging skin renewal. MD Skincare applies his research to products for home use by incorporating Alpha Hydroxy Acids (AHAs). Although certain AHA formulas can be very helpful for exfoliation, many women find that they require a more advanced treatment to help counteract the signs of aging.

Products at a Glance
The MD Skincare line consists of treatments for the face and body, and also includes a men’s collection. Products include: All-In-One Facial Cleanser with Toner, Alpha Beta Daily Face Peel, Antioxidant Firming Face Serum, Anti-Aging Vitamin C Gel, Firming Eye Lift, Firming Body Lotion with Vitamin C, Men’s One-Step Daily Facial Pads, and Hydra-Pure Mist.

Products In Focus
According to the MD Skincare website, the real star of the line is Dr. Gross’s Alpha Beta Daily Face Peel. In order to accelerate cell turnover, it uses five acids instead of just one. According to the manufacturer, “this product not only helps to diminish wrinkles, but also reduces pore size and soothe frustrating conditions like acne and rosacea.”

Alpha Beta is slightly unique as AHA treatments go in that it claims to help stimulate collagen production, which helps to restore some of the firmness that is lost with age. The formula contains several antioxidants in the form of green tea and vitamins, but unfortunately it does not contain peptides, which have been shown to be quite effective for stimulating collagen synthesis.

Some of the other products in this line, such as Antioxidant Firming Serum, do contain peptides, but they do not take advantage of the latest technology. The peptide complex Matrixyl, for example, has been shown to lift sagging skin and prevent creasing, as well as reduce the depth of existing wrinkles.

Website
The MD Skincare website contains a nice amount of information, and it is organized in a way that is very easy to use. In addition to posting a complete list of ingredients, it also includes the primary active ingredients, which helps consumers to easily compare products and determine which one is the most appropriate for their skin type.

The site also contains an ingredient glossary, which is becoming increasingly standard for cosmetics manufacturer websites as consumers grow increasingly savvy.

Although online shopping is available, the company does not offer free trial samples, so consumers interested in trying MD Skincare products must invest the full retail price, plus shipping.
