MD Formulations Review Summary

MD Formulations is the skincare line of the Bare Escentuals brand, which was founded by skincare expert Leslie Blodgett in the hopes of creating color cosmetics and skin treatments that incorporate nourishing minerals without additional preservatives or irritants.

Over the last 20 years, MD Formulations has developed formulas that are specifically designed to treat individual skin types. Most of the products are for home use, but the line also offers a variety of treatments for professionals. In spite of the company’s claims of delivering customized treatments, many of the products in this line are only average. Consumers who are looking for a product to help soften their wrinkles may want to look for a brand with a more comprehensive anti-aging collection.

Products at a Glance
Some of the products in the MD Formulations line include: Facial Cleanser, Vit-A-Plus Anti-Aging Lotion, Wrinke Filler & Deep Crease Relaxer, Daily Peel Pads, Moisture Defense Antioxidant Serum, Critical Care Skin Repair, Total Protector, and Critical Care Calming Gel.

Products In Focus
Antioxidants are an important part of any skincare regime, as they help to protect the skin from premature aging caused by environmental damage. According to its product description, Moisture Defense Antioxidant Lotion combines four antioxidants to form a barrier between the skin and potential toxins. One of these protective ingredients is the antioxidant superstar Vitamin E, which has been shown to defend the epidermis against the early stages of UV damage as well as increase the efficacy of active sunscreen ingredients. For these reasons, Vitamin E and other antioxidants are excellent for preventing wrinkling and other signs of damage, but unfortunately they may not have a significant effect on existing wrinkles.

In addition to discoloration and dryness, excessive sun exposure can also result in a reduction of collagen levels, which can cause the skin to sag and crease. Those with existing wrinkles may want to try a treatment containing an active peptide complex such as Matrixyl, which has been shown to stimulate collagen production, giving the skin a firmer appearance.

Website
The MD Formulations website is fairly well-organized, posting a complete list of ingredients for each product. It also includes a glossary of terms, which many consumers find extremely helpful for narrowing down which formula is most likely to suit their needs. We were a bit disappointed to find that the glossary contained only minimal information about ingredients, and the ingredient lists posted on the product descriptions are likely to be difficult for anyone without a degree in chemistry to decipher.

Given the amount of sheer guesswork that often goes into choosing a skincare product, trial samples are an excellent way for consumers to see how a product feels on their skin without having to make a major financial investment. Although the MD Formulations website includes online shopping, unfortunately the company does not offer free trial samples.
