DermaNew Review Summary |
|
Microdermabrasion first began as a procedure performed only in doctors’ offices, then gradually expanded to salons, and finally to kits for home use. It is a skin-freshening technique that is advertised to aid skin that has taken a beating from the sun and the effects of aging. In a plastic surgeon’s office, a device like a fine sandblaster is used to spray tiny crystals across the face, combining abrasion with suction to remove the skin’s dead outer layer.
DermaNew’s home system is marketed to have “similar” principles on a smaller scale, and promises to smooth skin and minimize the visibility of skin discolorations and wrinkles. However, most dermatologists admit that even professional microdermabrasion has its limitations, and DermaNew’s version is no different.

Although DermaNew offers a range of products, the core of its line is its Facial Rejuvenation System, which consists of a battery-operated resurfacing tool and Microdermabrasion Cream. When used 2-3 times per week, DermaNew claims that this system will diminish the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles, as well as help to fade skin discolorations. However, most dermatologists warn that few, if any, at-home microdermabrasion kits can match the effects of a professional treatment.
Exfoliation is an important part of skin care, since it helps to remove dead skin cells and reveal newer, healthy ones. However, as we get older, skin’s needs change; collagen levels decrease, causing the skin to sag and crease. For this reason, women looking to fight the signs of aging may want to consider a cream that contains an active collagen boosting ingredient like a peptide complex.

 | Website |
|
DermaNew’s website provides a complete listing of all of its products and offers online shopping. While this certainly offers consumers a degree of convenience, they could also benefit from some additional information about the company, and about the products themselves. Each product description includes a complete list of ingredients, but to the average consumer, many of these names make little, if any, sense. Listing the active ingredients in each treatment and providing a description helps consumers to determine which product is most appropriate for their skin type, rather than leaving it to guesswork.
It is also somewhat surprising that the website does not contain information about the process of microdermabrasion, and how DermaNew’s home system works to improve the skin. This treatment is certainly growing in popularity, but consumers may still have questions.
