Decleor

Decleor Review Summary

Decleor was founded 20 years ago by a team of French aromatherapists with the intention of taking a holistic approach to beauty through the use of plant extracts. These extracts are further enhanced by essential oils, which the company believes help to expedite the delivery of botanicals to the skin cells, as well as provide calming sensory benefits. The company also recently partnered with the Shisedo Group, which has allowed it to expand the breadth and depth of its knowledge base and create more advanced formulas.

According to Decleor, the oils in its formulas are free of preservatives and 100% natural. This claim may lead those with sensitive skin to believe that they will not cause irritation, but in reality, essential oils can sometimes be just as irritating as artificial fragrances. As appealing as a holistic approach to skin care may be, consumers should be aware that it does not necessarily mean that Decleor products are gentler or more effective.

Products at a Glance
Some of the treatments in Decleor’s line include: Lait Demaquillant, Aromessence Neroli, Alpha Morning, Instant de Beaute, Phytopeel, Expert Contour, and Hydrating Self-tanning Milk.

Products In Focus
Hydrotenseur is part of Decleor’s collection of products for mature skin. It is designed to hydrate and firm the delicate skin around the eye with a combination of botanical and medical components. One of these medical components is the water-binding agent Hyaluronic acid, which has been shown to nourish the skin as well as help to carry debris away from cells, leaving the skin bright and refreshed.

Unfortunately, Decleor is considerably less forthcoming about the rest of Hydrotenseur’s composition. According to the product description, it contains a Plant-Based Firming Ingredient, but there are few clues as to what exactly this substance could be. For greater assurance, consumers may want to consider a product that contains an amino acid complex like Argireline, which has been shown to reduce the tiny facial twitches that over time can cause laugh and frown lines to deepen.

Website
Those interested in aromatherapy would greatly enjoy browsing Decleor’s website, which contains information on how various essential oils are distilled and purified. Unfortunately, unlike other companies, Decleor does not provide a glossary of ingredients to help consumers determine which product is most appropriate for their needs. Given the number of essential oils featured in this line, it is easy to get confused about the particular benefits of each formula without a working knowledge of their various components.

Finding Decleor products is also a bit of a challenge. They are available online through major internet retailers like Sephora, but it is unlikely that third party outlets carry the full range of products. The brand’s website includes a search function for spas that carry Decleor products, but rather than entering in their own zip code to obtain a list of nearby spas, shoppers must attempt to choose the nearest zip code from a lengthy list. This seems like a cumbersome and strange way of directing consumers.
