Cellex-C Sensitive Skin Serum

Cellex-C Sensitive Skin Serum Review Summary

Sensitive Skin Serum is part of Cellex-C’s line of “core formulations” and is designed to protect the skin from free radical damage with Vitamin C. The formula was developed by Lorraine Meisner, an eminent cell biologist at the University of Wisconisn who was concerned about the popularity of Retin-A, since the drug has been shown to increase the skin’s sensitivity to the sun, making it more susceptible to cancer.

Cellex-C, on the other hand, claims to protect the skin from sun damage by infusing it with vitamins. This also allows the skin to retain its collagen. Although Meisner’s discovery is an important towards the prevention of damage, it is difficult to say how well it can help to soften existing wrinkles. This particular formula is virtually the same as Cellex-C’s High Potency Serum, with the exception of one ingredient.

Ingredients At A Glance
Cellex-C High Potency Serum contains a patented formula for stabilizing Vitamin C: Ascorbic acid, which is a pure form of vitamin C; the mineral zinc and the amino acid tyrosine.

It also contains sodium hyaluronate as a moisturizer and pine bark extract, which is considered to be a very potent antioxidant.

Ingredients In Focus
As mentioned above, absorbic acid is a pure form of Vitamin C. It is also thought to have antioxidant properties. Unfortunately, preparing vitamin C for topical application is a difficult and costly process. Many formulations on the market are manufactured cheaply and are basically ineffective. There are many topical vitamin C preparations available that claim to benefit photo aged skin. However, almost all of these claims have no rigorous scientific testing to back them

Benefits to the Skin
The process that leads to skin damage is actually a chain reaction: free radicals destroy Vitamin C, which is responsible for maintaining collagen. While oral Vitamin C supplementation is one possible solution, scientists do not believe that this is the most efficient method to get the vitamin to the skin. Meisner’s major coup was discovering how to stabilize Vitamin C so that it could be used directly as a topical treatment. This helps to replace the vitamins that were destroyed by the sun, and protect the skin from further environmental damage.

The only difference between this product and the standard High Potency Serum is that this formula contains pine bark extract in place of bioflavonoids. While both are thought to have antioxidant properties, bioflavonoids are thought to enhance the absorption of Vitamin C. This might cause some irritation for those with sensitive skin.

Positives
• Contains a stabilized form of Vitamin C
• May help protect the skin against sun damage
