Bare Escentuals

Bare Escentuals Review Summary

Bare Escentuals began as a line of color cosmetics that uses only “pure minerals and no additives or irritants”. According to its founder, Leslie Blodget, the formulas are designed to be gentle on those with sensitive skin, rosacea, and blemishes, and will help to softly conceal scars, pigmentations, and wrinkles.

Based on the success of BareMinerals makeup on QVC, Blodget decided to expand the brand to include skin care products, and the MD Formulations line was born. This new line includes treatments to be used in spas or dermatologists’ office, as well as products for home use. However, a closer look at the ingredients in these formulas reveals that they are nothing special.

Products at a Glance
Some of the products in the Bare Escentuals’ skincare line include: Facial Cleanser, Vit-A-Plus Anti-Aging Lotion, Wrinke Filler & Deep Crease Relaxer, Daily Peel Pads, Moisture Defense Antioxidant Serum, Critical Care Skin Repair, Total Protector, and Critical Care Calming Gel.

Products In Focus
Wrinkle Filler & Deep Crease Relaxer is part of MD Formulations’ Temps Collection, which consists of quick fixes for common problems like acne and lines. This particular product is a pen in design, with an angled tip that dispenses a lightweight cream into wrinkles, making them less noticeable. The treatment contains peptides, which have been shown to be very effective in wrinkle treatments.

As peptides become more popular as cosmetic treatments, new complexes continue to be developed. Some help to minimize the tiny facial twitches that over time can cause lines, while others stimulate collagen synthesis, increasing skin’s overall firmness. Of course, the more advanced the complex, the more noticeable the results. Unfortunately, MD Formulations does not reveal the ingredients in its Wrinkle Filler & Line Crease Relaxer, so it is difficult to determine whether this formula is truly advanced, or just average.

Website
Like a growing number of cosmetics companies, Bare Escentuals includes a glossary of terms in the skin care section of its website so that consumers may familiarize themselves with the latest developments in dermatology. Unfortunately, the product descriptions are not so forthcoming, as only a portion of them include a complete list of ingredients. While most allude to a few main active ingredients, they offer few specifics, leaving consumers guessing as to whether the formula will be appropriate for their skin.

For this reason, those interested in trying Bare Escentuals products may prefer to try a sample before purchasing a full-sized container. Unfortunately, this option is not available on the brand’s website.
